Born in Hong Kong and landed Canada in 1967, Thomas Fung studied business at UBC and New York University, and undergone training at Bears Sterns, ACLI Commodity and Merrill Lynch in Wall Street New York, as well as Banque Paribas in Paris, which the family had substantial equity interest.
Mr. Fung founded the Fairchild Group in 1984 and has successfully built a portfolio of businesses ranging from property development, television and radio broadcasting, publishing, internet e-commerce, sourcing, retail and wholesale of over 40,000 variety of products. An independent media survey done by AC Nielson - DJC Research showed the Fairchild media Group captures the highest audienceship (70-88%) in all its media categories across Canada, it is also proven to be the most influential Asian Media Group outside of Asia. Fung also worked ten years in Hong Kong, during which he was in banking and securities, in film productions and advertisings.
Fairchild's pioneer project "Aberdeen Centre" commenced in 1990 as the first and largest Asian theme shopping mall in North American, captured international media coverage throughout the years, it is rated as one of the "must go" tourist spots in Vancouver, British Columbia. Recently the City of Richmond named the area Aberdeen District, in recognition of Aberdeen Centre's contributions.. The Centre's third phase of expansion will be completed in 2010, will be linked to the Rapid Transit system to meet the opening of Winter Olympic games.
Facilitated by the Fairchild Group's national media reach, Mr. Fung provides significant supports and participated as advisor or directorship role, in non profit organizations such as the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Vancouver Art Gallery, Red Cross, University of British Columbia, Vancouver International Film Festival, and Strategic Advisor to International Trade for the Canadian government, Royal Conservatory of Music.
